Morvant is bordered by the Lady Young Road on the North and the communities of Barataria on the East, Laventille on the South West and Belmont on the West.


Morvant is a residential area with a total population of 17,591. This community has a larger Afro-Trinidadian population of 71%. East Indian is at 2.8% and Mixed African/East Indian 7.9% with the rest of the population made up of Caucasian, Indigenous people and Chinese 18.3%. 26.1% of the community are Roman Catholics followed by the Pentecostal /Evangelical/Full Gospel religion 20% and Seven Day Adventist 6%, Jehovah Witness 3%, Hindu 1.06% and Islam 1.27% with a few others making up the additional percentages.

In terms of community layout, many of the houses are concrete structures as well as government housing developments. Additionally, there are numerous business places such as groceries, fast food restaurants, parlours, corporate businesses such as the Massy group and small mechanical garages and abandoned houses.


There are numerous pre-schools, four (4) Primary Schools and three (3) Secondary Schools in the Morvant Area. There are also two (2) Early Childhood Centres and a Servol life centre.


Of the population, 42% of the residents are presently working. The area has low levels of economic activity and high levels of unemployment, and rely heavily on government programmes, as many individuals are not actively seeking employment.

Youth Activities

There are four (5) basketball courts and two football fields located in this community as well as one playground facility. These are all utilised by the youth of the area. The Fire service Youth Club and Police Youth Club are two of a few registered youth organisations servicing this area. .


Par X Organisation, Professional Health and Social Workers of Trinidad and Tobago, Plover Gardens Welfare and Watch Group and Stephensville New Creation Community Development Group are some of the organisations working in the community.


Located in Morvant is both the Morvant Fire Station and the Morvant Police Station and several churches representing various dominations in existing in Morvant.
